Over the Term 1 break our new roof was finished and ceilings and walls replaced/repaired and repainted. New carpets were laid in many areas. We also replaced some of our old lockers. I would like to acknowledge Nell, our wonderful Acting Business Manager, for her work in coordinating this. She spent many long days here over the Term 1 break to see everything through to completion. The new roof was given a very good test last Friday and overall, it held up well, with limited water getting into the secondary corridor, gym and gym foyer.
COVID 19 Case management in Schools
From the beginning of Term 2 there has been a shift to a symptomatic management approach, with a focus on testing students and staff who have symptoms. We will no longer be sending messages to families every time there is an individual case in a class or grade.
From May 2 close contacts who do not have symptoms and return a negative test when notified they are a close contact no longer have to isolate. It is important that they do follow the Public Health close contact rules. For school this means:
- test for COVID-19 every day for seven days when coming to school
- not attend high-risk settings, unless as a critical worker and an exemption is in place – schools are not classified as high-risk settings
- mask arrangements in schools will remain the same – they are not required for primary school students but are required for all support school and primary school staff, and secondary school staff and students.
What will stay the same
We will continue to safely manage COVID-19 in schools and make every day of learning count. You can find out how in our COVID-safe Schools Plan.
If a student has symptoms and has not had COVID-19 in the past 12 weeks, please keep them at home and do a RAT. It is important to get tested for COVID-19 if any of the following symptoms occur, even mild, unless it has been less than 12 weeks since the person was released from isolation for COVID-19.
The common symptoms of COVID-19 are:
- fever (or signs of fever, including chills or night sweats)
- runny nose
- cough sore or itchy throat
- shortness of breath
- loss of taste or smell
Other symptoms that can occur include:
- gastrointestinal symptoms – nausea, diarrhoea, and vomiting
- headache
- muscle and joint pains
- loss of appetite
- fatigue
If the RAT is positive, students must stay home for 7 days and isolate and you must report the positive RAT to Public Health. This is a requirement under Section 16 of the Public Health Act 1997. Please also tell us at school and ask about learning from home if they are well enough to do so.
If the RAT is negative and there are no symptoms, students should keep coming to school. If there is a negative RAT with symptoms – retest the following day with either a RAT or PCR. If the second test is still negative, they can return to school if they feel well.
We have plenty of RATS available for students and families, so please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you require more.
