Earlier this week we were all saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Michael Johnston, our Foods and Kitchen Garden teacher. Michael was a much-loved member of our school community and a highly skilled teacher who built strong relationships with students and staff alike. If you or your child would like to speak with someone about any emotions his passing may bring up, please contact the office as support is available.
Pre-Kinder and enrolments for 2023
Pre-Kinder has started. We had a wonderful session with our 2023 Kinder group and families last Wednesday and they will continue each Wednesday this term between 9:15 to 10:15. It is not too late to enrol your child for Kinder in 2023.
At a number of other year levels we are full and unable to accept out of intake area enrolments (we do accept in area enrolments) and waiting lists do exist. For any families wishing to find out more about an enrolment at Campania for 2023 please contact the office.
We are having our Year 7 Orientation Day on Wednesday 30th of November. Information is going home with our current year 6 students and is also being posted to families enrolling at Campania for Year 7. This is a wonderful day where students get to meet all their classmates and their teachers and support staff.
Out of School Hours Care
At Campania we have an outstanding Out of School Hours Care program which is run by Adventure Patch https://adventurepatch.org.au/. There is capacity for more children to be accessing this service. If you are interested in finding out more, please follow the link above or call the office.
Swimming Carnival
Unfortunately, due to the rain we needed to cancel our swimming carnival which was to be held at the Glenorchy pool on Wednesday 26th of October. We are looking at indoor options for future swimming carnivals.
Communication with Families
We are shortly going to be sharing work samples for two of the core curriculum areas (Maths, Science, English or HASS) with families. These will be going home with students on Monday 7th of November. Please don’t hesitate to make a time to have a chat with your child’s teacher if you would like to discuss their work.
Final reports will be sent home in Week 9 of this term.
Presentation Assemblies
We are currently in the planning stage for our end of Year Presentation Assemblies. Our Prep to Grade 6 Assembly will be held on Monday 19th of December. This will be followed by a Year 7-9 Assembly where our school value awards, and subject awards will be presented.
We are holding our Kinder and Year 10 to Year 12 Presentation Assembly on Tuesday 20th of December (our Kinders don’t come to school on Monday).
We will be notifying families early November if their child is the recipient of an award. The earlier notice this year is to help family members organise their time so they can celebrate their child’s awards with us.
The Kinder-Year 2 swimming program will be held over the following days:
Week 1: Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th November
Week 2: Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th, Thursday 17th November

All students will need clearly named bathers, school uniform, underwear, towel and a plastic bag.
Our Year 10s are busy organising their transition to Year 11. Most of our students have enrolled at Rosny College, Claremont College, Sorell Senior School or here at CDS and they have chosen their courses. During the past week, students enrolled in VET Courses at Rosny College or Sorell Senior School, have participated in their interviews and those enrolled at Rosny have visited the college for a tour. In the coming weeks students will participate in the Rosny College “Confirmation of Enrolment” on Tuesday 15th November and in Rosny “Jump Start” on Thursday 1st December. There will also likely be a Taster Day for Claremont College and we will keep students and parents updated.
We encourage parents/carers to chat to their young people about what courses they have chosen for next year, and about their future plans. We also encourage families to follow the relevant college Facebook pages for up-to-date information. There is also some useful information and links here
Education Act - The Department for Education, Children and Young People Tasmania (decyp.tas.gov.au)
Please contact us at school if you have any questions about post Year 10 (or post Year 11/12) options. Even if your child does not currently attend CDS, we are always happy to answer questions and provide guidance.
Thanks for your support,

One of the best places for advice around esafety is the esafety website. A key tip for parents is to resist immediately taking away devices if there's an issue. The fear of this response is a reason kids often don't share their concerns. Families are also encouraged to talk to teachers around esafety.
