Industrial Action
Last Wednesday all Department of Education schools closed at 12:15pm due to industrial action. I know that this causes significant challenges for our families, and I would like to thank you all for making alternative arrangements at short notice.
Evidence of Learning/Reporting to Families
We have just shared Evidence of Learning with all families of students from Prep to Year 10. This is part of the new approach to reporting to families that is being introduced in 2023. As a school we see the value of this and wanted to take the opportunity this term to share student work and feedback about learning. This helps us to be ready to go when this is a requirement from Term 2, 2023. End of year reports will be sent home with students in week 9 of this term.
Grade 8 Camp and Camps 2023
Last Monday I had the privilege of walking with our Grade 8 students from Waterfall Bay to Fortescue Bay. This was a 17 km walk that pushed us all out of our comfort zone. I was impressed with the determination and resilience shown by our students (and staff).
In 2023 our camps program will involve:
Year 5/6 camp to Orana (Term 4)
Year 7 camp to Spring Bay Mill with a day trip to Maria Island (Term 1)
Year 8 camp to Fortescue Bay (Term 1)
Year 10 Transition Camp overnight at The Lea with visits to a range of educational institutions (Term 2)
Our Year 9s will have team building activity days (TBC)
NAPLAN 2023
In 2023 NAPLAN testing for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 is moving to March rather than the traditional time of May. This will mean that the reports for families will be available earlier in the year and this source of information for schools will also be available to use to help guide our work with students.
Student Wellbeing Survey
Our students from Grade 4 to Year 12 completed the Student Wellbeing Survey. This is designed to provide schools with valuable information about the wellbeing of our students.
Our wellbeing data indicates that from Term 3 2021 to Term 3 2022 we have had a 100 % improvement in the number of students indicating a medium or high wellbeing for School Climate -Love and Safety, a 14% improvement for a Positive Sense of Culture and Belonging - School Belonging), a 2% improvement for Learning - Cognitive Engagement, and a 3% improvement for Learning - Emotional Engagement with Teachers. We will work with our students over the next 12 months to develop a deeper understanding of their wellbeing to continue to build on our supportive school environment.
End of Year and Rewards Day
We are currently planning for our End of Year Rewards Day, which is being held on the last day of Term 4. All students will participate in activities in the morning, either at school or off site, before heading to Tolosa Reserve for a BBQ.
Earlier this week our year 8 students enjoyed a wonderful camping experience at Fortescue Bay.
