Campania District School News – Written by student leaders Maddi, Holly and Bailee
Many events have been happening at our school throughout the start of Term 2.
In week 4 on Monday, we had our investiture assembly, the student leaders received their badges and read out their pledge. We would like to welcome our new student leaders and congratulate those who were re-elected. We look forward to hearing about your new ideas.
We also held our whole school cross country in week 4. It was a very close event, but Churchill won by 6 points (Churchill 303, Laburnum 297). There was awesome participation on the day. We would like to thank Mrs Parker for organising the event and the student leaders for their help and encouragement towards their peers.
In week 6 on Wednesday the 31st we hosted our free dress day. All money raised on the day is being donated to the “Do it for Dolly Foundation” which educates people about the impacts of online and face to face bullying.
Last week grade 7-10 students were set to attend the inter-high cross country, but unfortunately due to bad weather it was postponed. The event is now being held on Tuesday the 30th of May. Goodluck to all the students that are participating and thank you Mrs Parker for organising for our school to attend.
The first Reclink football game is also happening in Week 6 against Oatlands District School at the Campania oval. Good luck to all the students that are participating. Our next game will be held on June 27th against Triabunna at Campania oval.
Campania has been lucky enough to be offered a 6-week reclink basketball training program. Reclink is paying for Danyon Saville to come to our school every Monday and train selected students from grades 3-10. Once the 6-week program has ended, Campania will be attending a basketball competition against other schools.
Finally, Dale added new sand to our sand pits over the last week. The primary students have been loving it and coming back to class covered in sand and smiles.
We would like to thank Ms Burbury for giving us the opportunity to write the newsletter report and we look forward to sharing the school news throughout the year.

It was perfect weather for running today. The Campania Interhigh Cross Country team should be very proud of their efforts today, demonstrating school values at all times and trying really hard with their races. Congratulations to Garth, Bailee, Madelyn, Hunter, Tom, Jonty, Dakota, Anna, Patience, Layla, Mikaela and Mollie for competing today.
The new venue gets a thumbs up, but some students weren't a huge fan of the number of hills it had. Thank you to the community members who came along to support the students.
Reminder that the SPSSA (Interprimary) Cross Country is being held next week, Wednesday the 7th of June at Bayview Secondary College in Rokeby.
Well done to our students who demonstrated respect, resilience and learnt lots on Careers Camp a few weeks ago. Thanks to our CDS staff and staff from Claremont College, Rosny College, Southern Central Trade Training Centre, University of Tasmania, and Sorell School for helping our students become more informed about options available after Grade 10. Thanks also to The Lea Scout Centre - Hobart and Seabourne Coaches. Thank you to our families for your support too!

Vaping and young people
The rising number of children and young people vaping is a growing issue of concern in our community.
Electronic cigarettes (vapes) can be appealing to young people due to bright colours and flavours. But no vapes are safe as they are often full of harmful chemicals and nicotine. For this reason, vapes can be addictive and harmful for lungs, brain development and general health.
It is important to talk to your children about vaping. Try to be understanding, compassionate and non-judgemental as you support them to learn more about the dangers of vaping or in seeking support to quit.
Information on what vaping is, the impacts and how to support your child is available on the new Department for Education, Children and Young People webpage on vaping, which can be accessed here:
