Campania District School Newsletter – Written by student leaders Holly and Maddi
What has been happening since our last newsletter?
On the 23rd of August (next Wednesday), the school will be holding the book week parade starting at 9.10am in the gym. All students from K-12 are invited to dress up as their favourite book characters. There will be prizes given out on the day for best dressed. Family members are welcome to attend the parade.
Two weeks ago, on the 1st of August, Campania competed in a Reclink football game against Tasman. The scores were close the whole game but unfortunately Tasman won by 3 points. Well done to all the students that participated. Good luck to the students for their upcoming game against Bothwell/Jordan River.
For the past two weeks a small group of year 9 students have chosen to participate in the ITrack program run by the Smith Family. The ITrack program pairs students with a mentor based on what they like. Once a week for 12 weeks students have an hour session to talk to their mentors about their future and how they can achieve their goals.
A big thank you to Mr S and Dale, who organised for the school to be gifted 100 tree seedlings to plant all around our school and thank you to all the students that helped them plant the trees. We look forward to watching them grow and make our school and playgrounds look amazing!
We look forward to sharing some more amazing news in our next newsletter.
Beacon Work Exposure Program – On Wednesday, August 9 the Beacon Foundation organised a work exposure excursion to the Veolia Environmental Services Plant in Cambridge for interested grade 9 and 10 students. As part of the excursion, the students learnt about the various roles linked to this business and the activities involved in the day-to-day operations. They also heard and learnt about the broad range of employment and career possibilities available at Veolia - from entry level traineeships/apprenticeships to management roles.
A huge thankyou to Ashley Berwick from the Beacon Foundation for organising the experience as well as to the staff from Veolia Environmental Services who organised a tour and hand-on activities to participate in.
We are very excited to have a new 12 seater bus join the school. It will be used in the school for Outdoor Ed and excursions. It has been used already with our Gr9-10 students that visited Veolia last Wednesday.
The Prep/1 class have been working on some displays for around the school. They looked at different things that make them happy, from sunny days, friends, toys, butterflies, pets and ever the weather.
At the end of last year the Primary Art classs did some paintings about themselves. Mrs Markham had them backed and made into a beautiful display for each younger Primary class. They finally have been finished and look fantastic.

On Thursday 10th August the school Association held a Primary Disco in the School Gym. We would like to thank all the staff and community volunteers that stayed behind to help run this event. The School Association will have a total amount raised for the next Newsletter.
Book Week Wednesday 23rd August
Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through Children's Book Week®. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. You will often see parades with students dressed as their favourite book character. Staff and students look forward to the chance to dress up, this year our dress up parade will be held on Wednesday 23rd August in the school Gym at 9.10am.
Lil will be off on some fun activites over the next few weeks, let's save the dates.

See you all Wednesday, Miss Glover and Mrs Wicks
The Grade 9/10 Kitchen Garden class worked well to plant over 70 native seedlings with the help of Sustainable Tasmania foresters. Volunteers from the primary classes made short work of the remaining 30 seedlings during lunch time. The Grade 9/10 Kitchen Garden class also helped plant an oak tree which was grown from an acorn collected by the current Grade 3/4s back in kinder. The oak tree is in memory of students and staff we’ve lost recently, such as Jim Brown and Michael Johnston.
